Yountville’s French Laundry; Thomas Keller’s take on how he does it
I came accross this video from a post when I was reading one of the blogs I read daily in Google Reader from Breaking Napa Valley News which had only one line “You have heard of the legendary restaurant with average bill $900+ for two but have you met Thomas Keller?”
Yes the restaurant is know for its exceptional food, quality and service. It and Meadowood are the only three Michelin star restaurants in Northern California. Living here in Yountville every once in awhile you will hear a snide remark from a tourist, even the occasionally local, about how pricey it is.

The above $900 remark reminded my of an article by Sophie Brickman of the San Francisco Chronicle, How French Laundry’s chefs reach for the stars; How Thomas Keller’s team keeps reaching for the stars. In the article she decribes how she spent a day there, ” I’d been scheduled to spend the next day in the kitchen with him, helping the cooks prep while observing a day in the life of the restaurant, research for a story I was writing about what goes on the behind the scenes of four-star restaurants in the Bay Area.”
After reading her story, it is a bit long but worth reading, you will have an appreciation for what it takes to be a great chef. How difficult

it is to do what Thomas Keller does and all the hard work it takes. Yes I have eaten there twice and all I can say is, there were things I tasted that I don’t know how he can make something taste so MARVELOUS!!! It does take a bit of persistence to get a reservation there, for it is forever fully booked and reservations can be made only exactly 60 days in advance, so obviously many others think it is well worth every penny.
