I posted about Laura Cunningham of French Laundry, Thomas Keller fame quite awhile back opening a new Italian restaurant, Vita and was wondering what was happening. She was suppose to be doing the front house stuff and the French Laundry group handling the culinary side. There is some work being done at the site and I did read in the Napa Register she had gotten a $750,000 Small Business Administration loan. But about a week ago, I was having a glass of wine at Bouchon and Chris, my favorite bartender, told me the deal was off and he indicated that things were not going smoothly. Then I read the following in the Inside Scoop SF. As he says below, stay tuned…..
As noted in this week’s print column, the Yountville rumor mill is churning in full force when it comes to Vita, Laura Cunningham’s delayed project in Yountville. To quickly recap, Cunningham took over the old PJ Steak/Pere Jeanty back in 2008 (see the Scoop archives for more details on the concept itself). The existing building at 6725 Washington St. was knocked down in January. Since then, hurdles have been encountered with the rebuilding process.
The official word is that the “developmental complications” have put the project “on hold.” The nature of that phrase — whether it means it’s indefinite, etc. — is yet to be seen. Stay tuned
