Banks seized more than a million US homes in one year for the first time last year, despite a slowdown in the last few months as questions around foreclosure processing arose, RealtyTrac said on last Thursday.
In California there were the most foreclosures for any state, 546,669. Amazingly, the top 5 states for foreclosures accounted for 51% of all the foreclosures in the United States. The 4 other states topping the list; Florida was second with 485,286, Arizona, the least populous of the five states, was a distant third with 155,878, Illinois was fourth with 151,304 and Michigan was fifth with 135,874 foreclosure filings.
