I was reading an interesting article in yesterday’s San Francisco Chronicle by John Diaz, “The California divide” (Sorry about the link to a search of articles by John for the Chronicle doesn’t put their stories on line for two days). Though the main focus of the article was about SB653 (Senate Bill) being proposed by Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, that would empower local governments to ask voters to raise a wide array of taxes, he did present some very interesting statistics about “a state of great diversity and grave disparities”.
Here are the numbers from John’s article giving the Statewide number and the high and low for California. I have added the same stats for Napa County more for my curiosity and hope you find them useful especially for anyone who might have an interest in property here. The source is the same for Napa County except where noted otherwise.

San Francisco: 1 in every 778 housing units
