Firstly to say, I am still ok and in my house. Today we here in the Napa Valley Valley got some good news at the 9 am morning fire briefing from the powers to be. No new evacuations anticipated for the Valley today.
As with all good news lately, there is bad. The cities of Sonoma and Santa Rosa have new mandatory evacuation areas. In Sonoma the northeast part of the city and in Santa Rosa on both sides of Highway 12 from Kenwood to Calistoga Road in Santa Rosa.
In a fit of irony, I went out this morning here and the sky was blue, air crisp with only a hint of smoke and quite a bit less smoke behind the Veteran’s Home than yesterday. Walked down the road a ways and saw the smoke behind Mondavi Winery had grown in size, in my opinion double to triple what I saw yesterday.
I would take photos but my camera is packed in a box just in case I have to leave. To give you a sense of what this fire was like when it first started, watch the dash cam video by a Sonoma County Sheriff deputy. Truly scary.
