The latest news about Vita, Laura Cunningham’s new Yountville restaurant, doesn’t look to good. She filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. From public records, Vita Partners LLC owes Charles Crocker and the estate of John Traina $2 million to say nothing about the three quarter million dollar Small Business Administration loan. The only bright side is she didn’t file Chapter 7 liquidation.

Vita was an ambitious undertaking which was proposed a few years ago by Laura. It was a very unique design and given her relationship with the Thomas Keller of the French Laundry. Bouchon and Per Se fame, seemed like a sure bet. However, the recent backing out of the French Laundry connection, who originally were going to main the kitchen chores, has not been a good thing for her.
On first securing the site for Vita, Laura tore down the existing building, the former Mama Ninas and PJ Steak (Philippe Jeanty of Bistro Jeanty) and now faces a 120 period to submit restructuring plan to the creditors and the court.
Speaking of Per Se, Thomas Keller’s New York four star restaurant, it won top honors in the nation for outstanding service. A feat shared with the French Laundry which accomplished the same in 2003.
