Calistoga may have all the glitz and eatery fame that Yountville has, nor the perceived posh of St Helena but it is one heck of a town according to Fodor’s Travel Guide for Northern California 2014. Calistoga was named last week in a Top 10 list of America’s best small towns by Fodor’s Travel, which has been influential in the travel industry for 75 years.
Fodor’s said, “Calistoga may not have the posh atmosphere of neighboring St. Helena or Healdsburg, but what it lacks in glamour it makes up for in character (and bargain prices).” To be included on the list, Fodor’s team of editors was solicited for nominations of American towns with populations 30,000 and under. “We received about 65 and whittled it down to 10,” Connelly said.
A little known fact, Calistoga currently has approximately 750 hotel rooms second only to the City of Napa. With 250 more in the works, the sleeping little town is blossoming brightly. Given that about half the city’s revenue comes from a combination of hotel and sales taxes, the city’s coffers might soon be glad that secret got out.
